Multiversus upcoming characters and dream picks

Who are the upcoming Multiversus characters? With a pretty sizeable roster already, the popular platform fighter is back as of its official launch. It also helps that it’s similar in gameplay style to Super Smash Bros, filled with characters across the Warner Bros portfolio, and completely free to play across PC and consoles.

We already know of at least one new Multiversus character coming soon to the fighting game, and it’ll be fascinating to see where they end up on the Multiversus tier list. With a character list as big as this one is, though, balancing is tricky. We also ran a thought exercise during the beta in trying to predict which Warner Bros characters would eventually make it to this platform fighter’s roster. Hopefully, we’ll see one or two of them join the team soon, but for now, here’s what we know for certain about upcoming Multiversus characters.

Confirmed upcoming Multiversus characters

During the Multiversus launch trailer, we saw The Joker begin summoning several bad guys. While we don’t see all of them, Jason Voorhees and Agent Smith appear by his side to face off against the heroes.

Agent Smith is currently not selectable. However, by completing the new single-player Rifts mode, you’ll soon be able to unlock Agent Smith as a playable character a few weeks before he goes on general sale. However, at the time of writing, you cannot get him or any of his skin variants.

Multiversus characters we’d like to see

Given that we don’t have many characters in the pipeline, we thought picking our own playable fighters would be fun. To make our picks realistic, only characters affiliated with Warner Bros count.

Firstly, while we did get The Joker as part of the official launch day roster, there are still only a couple of DC supervillains. Since Batman now has two members of his rogue’s gallery to fight against in Multiversus, it’s bizarre that neither Superman nor Wonder Woman have their most iconic villains present. Therefore, we reckon that Lex Luthor in his mech suit acting as a tank, or Cheetah as an assassin-type fighter, would fit the bill nicely.

Both Bugs Bunny and Taz were the initial representatives of Looney Tunes’ golden age, and we correctly predicted that Marvin the Martian would join them. However, given how Daffy Duck is canonically never one to be upstaged by Bugs, something would be amiss if he didn’t make a fabulous debut soon.

Unfortunately, Hanna Barbera cartoons only have Scooby-Doo characters representing them in Multiversus, so why not have at least one of the colorful casts from The Flintstones in the roster? Our money is on either Fred, Barney, or Dino.

Outside of these suggestions, the world is our oyster. After asking around the PCGamesN team for thoughts, here are some of our picks:

  • Skeletor (Masters of the Universe) – this is my personal outlandish fantasy pick. He would be a formidable bruiser-type character with his iconic sneer as part of his taunt.
  • Brienne of Tarth (Game of Thrones) – she would be a nearly unstoppable tank class, showing expert swordsmanship in both the novels and the TV series. It would make sense, as Arya is in the game, and the House of the Dragon season 2 is coming very soon.
  • Mad Max (Mad Max: Fury Road) – because who doesn’t want to see him walk up to Jason Voorhees and kneecap him with a sawn-off shotgun?
  • Michael Jordan (Space Jam) – if LeBron James can be on the team, why not the original leader of the Tune Squad too?
  • Yakko, Wakko, and Dot (Animaniacs) – their stage is already in the game, so why not embrace the chaos and have all three as swappable modes for one character like in the Genesis game?
  • Morpheus (The Matrix) – we were so close, but the first Matrix-related character was, in fact, Agent Smith. However, we’d still love to see the best character in The Matrix movies get a shot.

We leave you with our Multiversus new character picks, alongside the fighters already rumoured and confirmed as coming to the multiplayer game. We also have a list of other free PC games just in case there is another instance of Multiversus maintenance downtime, and you want something to play to pass the time.
