Are the Fortnite servers down?
The Fortnite servers are currently live, but Epic Games says queue times may vary dramatically as it works on issues with the new update. According to Epic Games, players could preload a new version of the update from Friday, March 8, 2024, at 6pm PT / 9pm ET, and Saturday, March 9, at 2am GMT.
According to the Fortnite Status X (formerly Twitter) account, this is due to an unexpected issue during the maintenance period. The post originally stated that the servers would be down for “at least [eight] additional hours.” The team later states that players are now able to matchmake and purchase items in the store, but explains, “Queue times may continue to fluctuate in length over the next several hours while we are working to resolve an issue.”
Generally speaking, Fortnite servers only go down during maintenance periods between patch updates or when demand is increased to the point of overloading servers. The last time the latter happened was with the introduction of Lego Fortnite in late 2023.
